Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a quiet area of Montreal Island known as West Island. It is the West Island, to those who have never heard of it, is a large region that runs from Lachine until the west. Amanda Brugel grew up on this island, and it is often referred to as her birthplace. However, she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel was raised in Courtice located just outside of Oshawa. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height meant that she literally outgrew the dancers she was with. In an article in the Toronto Star she admitted In heels, I'm 6'1 inch. Once I surpassed the size of my male friends and stopped dancing, I quit. The Brugel is one of the former dancers who shifted to acting. Her high school teacher school encouraged her in the right direction. Her teacher encouraged her to try out to play the character of Anne for their school's annual production. The audition was successful and she was chosen as Anne of Green Gables. This led to an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Over the past 20 years, Brugel's roles on TV and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award winning series The Handmaid's Tale was her most famous. Brugel was the sole Canadian actor in Season 1 of the series, and only seen occasionally.
